## Finding the human signal in the Intelligence Age

I'm Avery Lake, a Swiss-Canadian conceptual artist and ethicist. My work — limited editions, interactive digital pieces, and installations — asks what remains irreducibly human as machines take on more of what we once thought only we could do.

Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada

## Most art about AI is either hype or fear

It's easy to make work about artificial intelligence that either celebrates the technology or warns against it. I'm interested in something harder: what actually happens to meaning, memory, and identity as generative tools become part of everyday life — and what, if anything, stays untouched.

## What I make

### Conceptual & digital artworks

Limited-edition physical pieces and interactive digital experiences exploring AI, ethics, and identity

### Exhibitions & installations

Participatory installations and gallery works shown across BC and beyond

### Curatorial & speaking work

Founder and curator of TEDxAbbotsford, drawing on a background in bioethics and philosophy of technology

## Grounded in real research, not just aesthetics

My work comes out of over a decade of doctoral and postdoctoral research into human enhancement and the ethics of artificial intelligence — a PhD in bioethics from the University of Zurich and postdoctoral work at the University of Calgary. That background shapes every piece, from a hand-drawn QR code that mirrors the viewer back to themselves to a digital ritual built around porcelain masks of constructed identity.

- Exhibited in Vancouver, Abbotsford, and Whistler in 2025–2026, including Gem Mint Abundance at Gallery George and In A Word at Kariton Art Gallery

- Featured by CBC Radio-Canada, Abbotsford News, and La Source

- Founder and curator of TEDxAbbotsford since 2016; previously founded TEDxMartigny in Switzerland

## Let's talk about the work

You leave with a piece, a partnership, or a conversation that treats AI and technology as a question worth sitting with — not a trend to chase.
